Re: Monitor won't display after installing new display drivers!

reset the cmos
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual
if this gets you back into boot then try installing the drivers that came on the video setup disks with a/virus disabled for the install

Re: Monitor won't display after installing new display drivers!

I am not one to usually post to discussion forums, but this is a problem that had me stumped for the better part of a weekend. I had a 7900 that just stopped working one day. I had sound, hard drive, bios splash screen, and windows splash screen, but after the splash screen, the monitor went into power save mode.

So, I replaced the mobo, the 7900 with 2 8800s, the memory, the psu, and reinstalled vista (a half dozen times). The same thing every time - all was great with the native windows drivers, but as soon as I installed the nvidia drivers, blank screen after the windows splash screen.

On a far-flung hunch, I replaced the DVI cable from the graphics card to the monitor. Low and behold, everything starting working correctly. I took a look at the cable, and noticed that one of the connectors was fitting very loosely on the monitor input. My theory is that somehow (vibrations, moving the monitor, moving the cables, etc.) maybe caused one of the connections or conductors in the cable to stop working. Perhaps the native windows drivers do not use all of the lines in the DVI cable, but the nvidia drivers do - this is the only way that I could explain what happened. I hope this helps someone else stop banging their heads on the wall. Good luck!
