Hello
I have an ATI Radeon 9600 (RV350) but ever since installing the card my PC boots windows normally, my FireWall and Spyware programs come online but then the screen teurns black and lags while it trys to reload the desktop and bottom bar. I have the most recent drivers for all my hardware including the 9600 but am lacking in the RAM department. Currently I only have one 256mb stick in my PC. Could this be causing the problem as my PC struggles to load the nessicery settings for my graphics card? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Oh and does anyone know where you can get decent DDR333 PC2700 SDRAM? Ebay is flooded with either dodgy or over expensive versions of this old make of RAM. |

Re: Screen goes black and lags on Windows boot up since installing graphics card.
ok personally its going to be 1 of 2 things, yes you need more ram, 256 will struggle with anything and also its a possible psu. I#m guessing by your post that your pc is old, but if you have added a newish graphics card, has your psu got the power to run it
Just my tuppence worth :) quaz

Re: Screen goes black and lags on Windows boot up since installing graphics card.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help.
Yea as you can see by my clicking system on the left under my name it is a relativly old PC slightly modernised. I think I have more than enough power, I've got an ATX 500W. My PC still works fine, games play well (if they dont take ages to load because of the RAM) it's just on the initial boot of windows I have the problem. I turn no my PC, windows boots with the lovley windows jingle, my firewall and spyware load then I've got to wait about 2mins before the screen goes black for about 20sec then freezes. At this point my PC takes about another 3mins to be propperly usable as (I think) the card struggles to load the bottom bar (the one with Start, open tabs ect). |

Sorry for the late reply, the issue is solved now. I was doing a routine clear up of my hard drive (defrag etc) and it turns out the problem was due to lack of physical memory. I stopped all unessicery processes from booting via task manager and once I had cleared a nice amoint of my drive space the problem went away.
Thanks for your help anyway. Last edited by BingoMorris : 06-30-2008 at 03:18 PM. Reason: My bad spelling |
