Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Well, since this problem seems pretty unsolvable, I guess I'm just gonna have to live without games. :(

Also, a question about the connectors. The mobo needs two of these

My old computers PSU had only one of those, so that got me thinking, how common are those?

Edit: So, the verdict on the PSU is that it would work with my current build and I should get it if I'm a cheap bloke(which I am)? Good. I'm definitely not going to be upgrading it.. Ever. Each and every time I upgrade my computer or get a new one, everything goes to shite.
If you don't all ready have it here's a link to the manual http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Bar...151_t2-pe1.pdf

The second atx12v connector is to power the PCIx16 graphic card Page 31 at the bottom. Do you have this hooked up now? I never seen this setup before, while secondary power for the x16 slot has been done it's usually with a 4 pin Molex connector.

Yup, both of them are hooked up. One's next to the CPU and one's next to the PCI-E slot.

And cheers for the manual!

As a finishing up question:
Is there any hope to get this rig up and running or should I just return it(that is an option too)?

Edit:
The manual says
"Install only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM in DIMM1 and DIMM2"

However, because I wasn't satisfied with a measly 1GB, I immediately installed my old 1GB stick and replaced the other 512MB stick with it(so now there's a 512 stick and a 1024 stick). Could this possibly have something to do with my problem?

Gonna test it out, worth the try, right?

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

It may be mismatched RAM can cause some unusual problems.
If you have the option of returning I would seriously consider it, I don't think the system was designed with gaming in mind. It's more of a web, email, word processing system.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Well, with gaming I didn't really mean Crysis on High settings, I meant TF2 on medium :P Not much of a graphic ho and I don't play newer games. I'm satisfied if a few older ones run atleast half decently

I installed the original RAM back, now we'll just have to wait and see.

And as I suspected, that didn't help jack

Guess I'll call the fella tomorrow and talk about returning this.
