Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Hmh. Well, what do you think about MacGyvering a new PSU somewhere outside the case? I don't really care how rugged it looks, I'm more concerned about safety.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

As long as you have the metal of the PSU attached to the metal case frame for grounding it should be alright, just make sure the PSU & the PC get air flow through them, that case probably uses the PSU fan for cooling.

The case has got a fan of its own fortunately. I'm pretty sure the current PSU obstructs the air flow more than it helps

Thanks for the help! I'll order that PSU dai suggested when I get my next salary and we'll see how that goes.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

*bump* Sorry for the double post.

I've been scouring the internet(still haven't gotten that bloody salary..) for more info on the power consumption of the card. The only proper mention thusfar is this chart http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha..._review/8.html

Clarifying question: Does the card need exactly that PSU dai suggested with the 26 amps on the 12+ line, or would any PSU with more wattage suffice? I mean, the card doesn't have any external power cables or stuff like that, soooo...

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Alright.

Oh, also. I noticed that there was ACEEventlog section in Event Viewer and every time the crash comes calling, this is generated

0000000001: 2008-06-29 14:46:15:078 Exception <Load>: Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Branding.dll' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Probably not of any use, but then again, you never know. :|

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

You might want to try using Driver Cleaner Pro to remove the ATI video drivers then reinstall them. Two words of caution 1 Download the the new driver first. 2 make sure you only uninstall the ATI Video drivers.
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download...t=745#download

Then the ATI Catalyst 7.2

7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238.exe 7d0d4ac03680079df70b7d8fc126b305 ---MD5 check Sum

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Alright. I've reinstalled them more than a couple of times(removing the drivers with DCP too), but I guess I could try once more.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Did you get the drivers from the ATI site? A couple of the articles I read relating to ATI & file not found were solved using drivers from this source rather then ATI. Yea I know seems strange.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Yeah, got the from the ATI site. These drivers you suggested I got from FileHippo(only site I could find them from O_o). They keep telling me on install that they couldn't find a driver compatible with my current hardware or operating system.

The file is 7-2_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_41238.exe

Downloaded from several places I googled and the problem seems to be that this isn't compatible with my hardware? :I

ATI's site says these are compatible with my hardware

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Well sorry I guess that's my bad I read your post from the 1st page somehow when posted "Currently using Catalyst 07.8 with 8.401 drivers from ATI" I read it as 7.2 drivers not sure how but anyway, I would go with the latest version then the Catalyst 8.5.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

Didn't help. :( Woke up to a 'No Signal - Check Cable?' :(

Could this have something to do with the fact that I'm using a DVI->VGA converter? I've tried several, but maybe it's the use of one in general.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

It would work but it's not considered a quality unit, It would probably work with your present
componets but not much more.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

I wouldn't really like to pay almost a hundred euros for something that's not guaranteed to solve the problem. :/

Also, a question about the connectors. The mobo needs two of these

My old computers PSU had only one of those, so that got me thinking, how common are those?

Edit: So, the verdict on the PSU is that it would work with my current build and I should get it if I'm a cheap bloke(which I am)? Good. I'm definitely not going to be upgrading it.. Ever. Each and every time I upgrade my computer or get a new one, everything goes to shite.

Re: PowerColor ATI HD 2600XT crashes

thats the aux power plug to the m/b the plug comes as a 8 pin which splits in half to cater for m/b's that require a 4 or 8
