What's the state of Quad SLI right now?

So, I remember when the GX2 was first released, the Quad SLI feature didn't function properly, or flat out didn't work, or did worse, or any number of things.

I guess the thing I'm asking here is, is it really worth it to get Quad SLI? Or should I just get Two 9800 GTXs? Because I'm still struggling with whether or not I want to upgrade to Vista and get DX10, and if I can cut some off the price, I'd be more than willing.

Well don't upgrade to vista. It will be a waste since windows 7 is replaceing it. So no need for the headaches.

They have gotten the gx2 to work properly, And if you only have 2 pci-e 2.0 slots then they would be the fastest. Two 9800 gtx's would be a litttle slower , but 3 would be faster. Make sure you have a good psu with 26a on the 12v rail and make it over 800watts for this kind of setup.

Re: What's the state of Quad SLI right now?

They found the problem with the 7950Gx2 (or what ever it was) for Quad SLI on XP is that DX9 "can" only pre-render 3 frames. Even tho many ppl may of come across Nv's pre-render frames, that only applies to how the CPU cues up the frames to be rendered..
So having 4 cards on DX9 was a waste as the 4th was sitting there doing nothing.
Vista's DX10 is able to pre-render 4 frames, so its why "They think" Quad SLI should work.
However if you with to spend that much money on getting another card to only get a 40%-60% performance increase then its ur money.
Im waiting untill they actually start to fix all the problems with Vista and the Nv drivers.
But by then they usually release a new OS and GPU.
