Stuck in powersave mode

The other day my roommate came into my room and ripped out the internet connection. (not literally) however, ever since he did that, i'm sure he unplugged lots of other things not knowing what he was doing. Now when i restart or turn on my computer, usually it looks as though it is starting up normally, then the monitor light turns orange, the keyboard lights go blank and when i push a button on the monitor it says "in auto save mode, press any key on the keyboard or mouse to continue" yet nothing happens. I know nothing about computers, so all i have done is google searched some stuff, changed my display settings but nothing helps. Right now the screen is all garbled and some areas are hard to read. What to do?

Re: Stuck in powersave mode

Hi, if you can't start your PC, how did you change the diplay settings?

First, with your computer OFF and unplugged from the mains, make sure everything is properly, tightly connected to the rear of your pc and to the monitor.
Next, press F8 repeatedly during startup to get into safe mode.
Now go to Control Panel and adjust your Power Settings. Restart.
If it restarts fine, but you still have graphics problems, do a Systen Restore to a time before the problems began.

We could offer better advice though, if you could tell us what type of PC and Monitor you have.
Manufacturer, Model and Number.
