Sad DVD video Quality

So ive had my computer for a while now and i bought a 22 inc LCD monitor today. I go to play a dvd on it and it looks a bit pixilated like if there is static on the screen. I also had this problems back when i had my old Boxy small monitor. It cant be the video card cause i have several HD videos and dvd rips downloaded onto my computer and they have amazing quality in picture. Anyway i can improve the quality of my dvd player? So far ive tried Power DVD 8, but that only helped a little.

Specs:
CPU: AMD anthlon 64 X2 Dual 6000+
Motherboard: Infinity NF ULTRAII-M2
Ram: 2.00 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 8800 GTS
HardDrive: 180 GB
OS: Windows XP
Power Supply: 750w

No, its any dvd. It looks kinda like when you look at a bad digital camera and everything has like little dots all over it.

Alrighty.

Which players have you tried playing them with?

If you haven't already, try it using VLC player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Post back if that makes any difference.

Re: Sad DVD video Quality

In VLC.

Select File > Open Disk > Select DVD(Menu)

Device Name -> the letter assigned to your DVD drive.

Click OK.

That should open the disk.

I don't think you can open it with dvix player.

EDIT:

Have you cleaned the lens lately?
