Trouble Getting Audio From VHS Home Videos using TV Tuner

Hi Everyone,

I've been working on this problem for months.
I have two computers I've been trying to do this on, trying to record my home videos (VHS) onto my computer using a TV tuner. On both computers I've been able to get the video fine, but the problem is the audio is choppy.

My old computer is a Dell Inspiron something..., only about a year old.
The computer I'm trying to get it to work with now is a Dell XPS 420.

Both computers came with the TV tuner, I know it's ATI because the driver in Device Manager is ATI AVStream Driver.

Here's the weird part, I can play commercial VHS tapes fine on my computer with no audio problems at all, but I can't play any of my home movies on my computer.

Now it gets really weird - I can play the same VHS tapes using the same VCR on a normal TV and the audio is fine!

Just doesn't make sense to me... I tried updating drivers using ATI Catalyst install today, I've tried using different programs and messing with audio settings and audio fixes (Windows Media Center, Virtual Dub, Chris TV), but I can't get the audio to work.

I'm using a Coaxial cable, and the sound is connected inside the computer, I don't have a 3.5mm going from my tuner to my sound card.

I've done plenty of Google searching and I haven't found anyone with my problem - and I've had the problem with 2 fairly new computers out of the box.

Please help me out if you know of any solutions, I'm hoping that worst case scenario I can buy a different TV tuner card than the one that came with my computer.

Thanks

Using the coax modulator labeled "To TV" on the back of the VCR?

Re: Trouble Getting Audio From VHS Home Videos using TV Tuner

It says "RF Out" on the back of the VCR. There's only two coaxials on the back of my VCR, and the other is "Antenna In".
Thanks for your reply :)
