Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
I got my card around 6 months ago and didn't really care to look at temps when i got it. So the other day i looked at them with Rivatuner and surely enough while playing cod4 i was sitting at 120 degrees C, so i quickly quit the game and proceeded to turn the fan speeds up to 100% from the default 29% (i can stand the noise). But even with them at 100% i still get up to 105 in cod4 and 70 at idle.
I'm assuming its my old dell e521 case with its one fan (getting a new one shipped with a new motherboard this week). But if that isn't the problem do you think somethings wrong with my card, i have no warranty on it and its 6 months past purchase so would i be screwed? Edit: Its BFG. |

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
hhhhmmmm this is a tough one it proberly is your case but your card could already be damaged. :( id stop playing cod4 till your new case co,es in the post then re-install rivatuner and take a look at the temps after leaving the card idle and while playing cod4 or other game. however it could be you are overloading your card have you checked the settings in cod4 you may be running it on optimal settings for 2 cards not one??
o.d good luck |

Power Supply Information and Selection
a poor quality PSU may provide too few amps, too few volts, or too many volts, or a combination of either. Any of the above will PERMANENTLY damage a video card (non RMAable usually i dont think) and cause it to do all kinds of things..including turn into a deep fryer like yours has.

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
alright, i guess when i get some cash (because i jst spent 400$ on the new board and case) ill get a higher quality one. I mostly got that one because i was in a rush and didnt want to wait a few extra days to use my card. so i ran out to best buy and picked up that.

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
That power supply is poorly constructed and may cause problems with your system. Please take the time to read the following article:

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
Yea, looks like it is pretty bad. I'm glad i only really play World of Warcraft and probably wont be playing COD4 until i get a new psu. Looks like it will work until i can get enough money to buy a new one, Thanks for all the help guys i say that the problem is pretty much solved.

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
Put it in a new cae with 3 or more fans of 120mm size, and report back on the temp change. I know from using them that Dell cases aren't so much as worth their weight in steel (approx 2 dollars, and yes they're indeed steel). From there, we can start disecting on power issues. But I'd still be weary of that PSU causing card damage under high stress...

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
yea i wont be putting it under high stress until i get a new psu thats for sure. I'll defenitely report back with how the case changes things, its a thermaletake armor w/ 25cm fan (has 4 fans + the 25cm one on the side).

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
I have the antec 900, same design almost. Both cases are VERY good about keeping vid cards cooler...then again, the only way you can make a vid card hotter than being in a dell factory case....is to put it in a vacuum sealed box.

Re: Hot Hot Hot 8800 GT OC
I'm back. I finally got my new motherboard and case and now i couldn't be more happy.
My card is running at 50 degrees idle and cpu at 36 degrees idle. The case is like 50 pounds but its well worth not cooking my card in the dell factory case. Thanks for all the help here i probably will still be getting a new psu sometime. |
