nVidia video driver problem - please help
Hi,
I purchased a computer in August that had Vista installed and had many problems with it so I reformatted it with Xp Pro. I am having problems with my video card driver for a nVidia geforce 6150 le. When this driver is not installed I have very erratic scrolling. However, when I install the driver the computer will shut down about 15 minutes after running, every time. Once I delete the driver (through system restore), the computer does not shut down but then the scrolling is not right. I have installed the correct drivers for both the motherboard and video card. I have also contacted nVidia and they are unable to resolve the issue. They sent me drivers to install in case I was downloading the wrong ones. They suggested that I contact Acer, of course since I put Xp in it, Acer can not help me. I have tried downloading the driver off of various sites. I've also tried downloading some tweaked version, but my computer still shuts down. I am at a loss. About one week prior to installing Xp the computer did start shutting down by itself. If anyone has any suggestions or insight, it would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help, Ricki |

Re: nVidia video driver problem - please help
Hi,
I don't have access to Vista any more. However, about a week or so before installing Xp the computer did start to shut down by itself, although not as frequently as now. At about that time, I updated my memory and it actually seemed to make it worse by shutting down more frequently. I put the old memory back in but that didn't seem to make it any better. I actually didn't make a connection at that time to see if I disabled the driver if the computer stopped shutting down. With Vista installed the computer seemed to shut down maybe once a day (only about a week prior to Xp), now with Xp and the driver installed (and only when the driver is installed) it routinely shuts off after about 15 minutes. Thanks for the help, Ricki |

Re: nVidia video driver problem - please help
Sounds like the computer had the issue when you bought it. When it shuts down , does it go through the shutdown sequence? Or does it just loose power and turn off immediately.

Re: nVidia video driver problem - please help
Hi,
When it shuts down I guess it just loooses power and turns off immediately. It does not go through the sequence of "windows is shutting down", it just powers off and does not restart. Thanks, Ricki |

Re: nVidia video driver problem - please help
if it does not restart straight away and you have to wait it indicates a heat problem
go into the bios and post what it lists the tempretures as
