Hello guys, I am very new here at this forum and was looking for a good forum that I can call my own for when ever I had questions and problems with my windows xp. So if by any chance I sound newbish I apologize this is my 1st post at this forum.
1st off my problem right now is the fact that I was having issues with my world of warcraft game and someone told me to go install some ati drives that I needed. And what happened was I downloaded the drivers and before I installed them, I uninstalled the ati driver i was currently using before uninstalling the ati control panel. I then installed the new ati driver and then rebooted. After that I didnt get a chance to test out the new driver because i had windows installer constantly popping up. So I figure i must have messed up in my way of installing / uninstalling drives. Now about every 25 secs or if i right click my desktop I have windows installer trying to install something. I cant figure out what I did to cause that and I cant figure out how to make that stop. I created a system restore point before I installed the new ati driver and after I was having this problem and after the driver was installed I used the restore point and windows installer is still popping up. So I don't know what else to do. I thought there was an area in my computer I can goto to remove the install files for ati but I did not do that before I rebooted so that may be whats causing my problems. Anyone have any ideas whats goin on? |

Re: Windows Installer Keeps Popping Up?
from experience ati drivers install catalyst separately and after the actual driver installation, though this is with a mobility raedon leaching from ram, meaning it might use different drivers, just a thought hope it helps, just check what its trying to install and did you get it from the ati website, if not it could be a virus, trojan or malware so watch out

Re: Windows Installer Keeps Popping Up?
Ok how I find out what its trying to install?
When it pops up: "Preparing to install..." I wait for it to pop up a window but then it shuts it self down and pops up same message again. I tried Uninstalling and Re-installing ati and this is what I get: 1 ) Tried uninstalling the ati control panel so i could tried to re-install it and i got a error message: "Windows Installer cant be accessed. This is caused by being in safe mode or windows installer isn't properly installed. Please check with a techy." 2 ) Tried re-installing ati-drivers and I get an error message. Forgot to right it down but it was probably caused by windows installer constantly popping up. I have trend micro pc-cillin and I scanned my comp for viruses and it cant be a virus. or a spy ware. I think i just installed something the wrong way and can't figure out how to fix this problem. |

Re: Windows Installer Keeps Popping Up?
It sounds like Windows Installer somehow messed up. Try doing a system file integrity check: Start -> Run -> type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes -> click OK
It might need to replace some files if they are corrupt so keep your XP CD handy. |

Re: Windows Installer Keeps Popping Up?
seems to be an overlay problem with MS office. I upgraded from Office xp to the new home student office. I was still using the outlook program from office xp. as soon as I uninstalled office xp student teacher it stopped. uninstall office, restart and open internet explorer. the installer shouldn't pop up. good luck
