dvd playback problem

i hv a desktop

specs :
>64 bit 3.07ghz intel processor ,

>intel d102g gc2 mainboard with ati raedon xpress 200 integrated graphics of 256 mb memory,

1 gb 533mhz ram
160 gb seagate sata hdd,
Lg supermulti dvd rw 20x ,
samsung syncmaster 740n 17 inch tft 1280x1024 resolution
xp sp2 32bit

(by grainy i mean little dots appearing or pulsating like 2 times per second all over the video and some movies are more grainy than others.)

i built it in 2006 and never tried dvd movies but now when i play them, every orginal dvd moive is grainy , i watch atleast 1 original off the shelf dvd movie daily and all are grainy but vcds , avi files and other video files are not at all grainy , i hv tried hd content n it plays fine but dvd even when copied to hdd play like this, all games play fine.
i hv tried many codec packs even tried every driver latest to oldest changed os to vista n ubuntu , still dvds are grainy n tried all the players i could get on google frm last one year.

i hv seen dvd playback on other computers really better than on mine.

ne idea why is it like this?

Re: dvd playback problem

this is a bit of a guess, but have you tried updating the firmware on the dvd drive?

Re: dvd playback problem

ya firmware is latest one , can copying a dvd content from a faulty drive cause grainy playback even through hdd. one more thing , when i turn on my pc the intel logo screen is badly pixelated , rest all the pictures and windows are fine .

Re: dvd playback problem

since you have GPU problems at start up then it seems to narrow it down to hardware. the GPU or PSU could be at fault. try running ATITool graphics stress test at default clock settings. i'll move this over to HD who are better at such things.

Re: dvd playback problem

i tried ati tool , its givin 17 fps on default settings, but when i play with sliders , my pc hangs . I got a call from intel they are saying if by updating bios the problem is not getting solved , they will replace the motherboard . i updated bios bit still the welcome screen is pixelated and there is mosquito noise in it , n dvd playback is still grainy.
btw have u ever seen small dots on dvd playback (translucent dots or colored) if u look too close to tft? even in sky background.
