Hey i bought a new nvidia geforce 8800 gtx on ebay to replace my faulty ati radeon x1950xt cuz the video ram was damaged and displayed artifacts, gave me bsod's, froze the pc, tons of sick sh*t. Anyway i got the gtx on ebay for about 255, 275 with shipping. Brand new, OEM product. just came with the card, nothing else. All went well, i installed the latest drivers blah blah blah. Everything works fine, card idles at around 56c. The thing is, as soon as I went into team fortress 2, there were polygon artifacts EVERYWHERE, covering the ENTIRE screen basically. Same thing in p0rtal. I'm 99.5% sure it's my psu, because i only have one pcie connector. It's some crappy 450watt, old piece of junk. Raidmax i think. I just wanna know, these artifacts are happening because of the psu right? cuz 450 isnt enough. I just wanna get things straight because i'm buying a BFG Tech BFGR800WPSULE 800W ATX 12V 2.2, link is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=BFGR800WPSULE ....that should solve my problem, right?

Re: nVidia geforce 8800 gtx artifacts
BFG video cards are great, but thier PSU are low quality, overpriced junk. I recently handled a thread dealing with that exact same PSU, that literally went out in a blaze of glory taking the motherboard down with on it's a way to the grave. I've also seen a BFG 650w takeout a motherboard when it died.
If you value your hardware, stay away from BFG PSUs. The Corsair unit recommended by Dai is very good choice however, and with a GTX you should be looking at no less than 650w. |
