What computer are you planing on putting this in? It will dictate what card you ultimately get.

Re: help

The GS is typically a cut down version of the GT. For example, the 8800GT has 112 shader units, the GS has 96. The GT has a 256bit memory bus, the GS has a 192bit memory bus. The Core and Memory clocks are also higher on the GT. Both have pretty overclocking ability, but all in all, the GT is the better card.

Re: help

What is the make and model and wattage of the psu. If it a low end psu you can only get mid to low range video cards. High end gpu's require high end psu's. also post your budget too.

Mistake Re: which video card

ok but tell me wht about PSU...i currently have 400watt psu but there is no 6 pin connector in my psu..only 4 pin connectors are available...i heard that nvidia 8600gt requires a 6 pin connector from psu...is it true??? secondly i just read a review mentioning that nvidia 8600gt is not too good for gaming as you can only get medium graphics not high graphics and good fram rates in graphics intense games like Call of duty 4...it also mention that it is just the name given to nvidia 8600gt as directX 10 gaming card...in actual it is not like that it will be unable to run directx 10 games with reasonable graphics and FPS infact it is quiet horrible card for directX 10 gaming and a waste of money.......is it true??? experts and 8600gt card holders please give ur comments over it?????

Re: which video card

Well the 8600 isn't as good as say an 8800 or 9660/9800. But it can play dx10 games just fine. But you said your budget could only afford an 8600 and that you have a 400watt power supply so it looks like better cards are out of the question.

Could you actually give us a number as to what your budget is? Or show us what 8600's your looking at? Not all 8600's require 6 pin power connectors.

Re: which video card

It depends, some have ddr2 and no extra poer connector and some have ddr3 ans have a 6 pin connector. For an 8600 the psu should be 400w or higher with 26 amps on the 12v rail.
