Picture "jiggle" on external monitor

Hi,
I'm trying to use an external monitor (actually an HDTV, I guess, since it has a tuner) with my laptop. The problem is that when I set the screen resolution to match the native resolution of the HDTV (1440x900), the pictures "jiggles" very rapidly up and down (the movement is roughly 1mm).
Interestingly, other than the jiggle the picture seems "crisp" with no blurring or distortion. Also, it appears the jiggle is stricty up-down; there's no left-right motion.

Details:
OS: Win XP Pro SP2
Resolution: 1440x900
Refresh Rate: 60 MHz (the only option available when "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" is checked)
Computer: Dell Latitude D610
Display Adapters: Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family
and Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family 128Mb
Monitor: Dynex 19" 720p LCD TV (DX-LCDTV19)

It seems to work fine at other resolutions (1280x768), but of course text display looks like crap due to the scaling (and attendant pixel interpolation).

I think this may be somehow a scanning frequency problem. It doesn't seem like a noisy signal. I can't be sure of that, of course, but I've tried to isolate it: I've tried a different laptop at 1440x900 connected via the same SVGA cable, and it looks beautiful. I also tried unplugging the laptop from its power supply, but that made no difference.

Any help would be appreciated!
