Monitor won't wake up

Hi, My first post here,

I have an nvidea 8800 GTS and a Samsung Synchmaster 906bw monitor. If the monitor and computer sit for a while without mouse or keyboard activity the monitor quits displaying the picture, even if a screensaver is rotating the picture every few seconds, and the monitor will not wake up again unless I reboot the computer and even that sometimes requires repetitive boots to redisplay the graphics card.

In fact I had so much trouble with it today I had to actually jumper the 2.4 ghz core2 duo quad intel mb -- into maintenance mode to get the picture back today.

I have the xp power settings to power always on with no sleep settings for any features and I can't find any settings on the monitor to stop it from sleeping. I really don't know where the problem is coming from. Any ideas or fixes?

Thanks,
Fiji

PS I tried searching here on several terms but the interminable wait time between searches finally got the best of me after no hits on any of my searches.

Re: Monitor won't wake up

Check that you have the PCI-E power connectors plugged in securely. Also what power supply are you using? It has to output 26A on the +12V rail to power your card effectively.

Power supply is a 400w X-tec - whatever that is. The output on the +12V is 18 amps.

Other than having a problem with losing contact with the monitor what other symptoms might occur from having only 18 amps of +12v?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Fiji
