Disassembling an 8800GTS
Hi there and thx in advance for any help. I"'m currently trying to install a Zalman VF-1000 and RHS-88 heatsink, fan, and ram heatsink on my EVGA Nvidia 8800GTS 640mb Superclocked video card(G80). From the install instructions it seemed fairly simple but I'm having a hard time removing the stock heatsink and plate. Is there a tutorial for disassembling an 8800 anywhere or does anyone here know anything about it. I've removed every screww I can see and I have the fan out...just can't seem to budge it from there. Not sure if it's just kinda stuck on there with the grease and I need to apply some pressure but dont wanna break the card. Any help? Thx

Re: Disassembling an 8800GTS
the heatsink is probably stuck to the chip by the thermal paste, try to wiggle it around a bit and it should come right off.
don't yank on it or anything ![]() |

Re: Disassembling an 8800GTS
Ya that's exactly what it was. I actually figured it out about 20 minutes after I posted here but thank you for the response. It did just need some good wiggling to get it loose and off of there. Got the new heatsink and fan installed they work great. With the stock crap on the card it would idle at around 75 degress and hit 90-100 degrees (celsius) under full load....and that was with the side of my case open with a big house fan blowing into the side. Now I can have my case closed and it idles at 50 degrees and the most I've seen it hit under full load is 62 degrees. Gotta love Zalman!
