BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

I just recently purchased the above mentioned video card and replaced my SLI 8600 GT 256mb cards and this new card which judging by reviews and what I am told should blow anything out of the water and laugh at any game but this is not the case.

It underachieves like no other.

Crysis I run at very low and am still met with lag. With the 8600's I could run HIGH and have just a pinch of lag.

My BLU RAY HD DVD drive also says the graphics card is not HDCP compatible and is not up to date but according to NVidia's website it is and according to the product box it has HDCP out of box.

I am pretty much at the end of my rope and thinking if i buy a second card the two together will fix my problem (I doubt it but it seems to be my only option unless you guys can help)

I'll place my other system specs so as to hopefully make it easier.

Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz, 4 gb of ram but it only recognizes like 2.5, Windows Vista Ultimate 32 Bit.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

Welcome to TSF.

What power supply do you have?
Are you overclocking anything?

Vista 32-bit has a max. RAM capacity of 4GB. That includes VRAM (video) and RAM assigned to system resources.
You have to get Vista 64-bit to use all 4GB.

is Vista 64-Bit a noticeable upgrade especially for gaming purposes?

No, too many compatibility issues, IMHO.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...424&CatId=2533

That's the Power Supply I have. It is 700W.

I am using all the little connectors that come off it.

I also noticed when putting the graphics card in that it has two power connectors which would have required 4 connectors from the power supply but I only had enough for the one power cord and the other one by itself beeps so I figured the one I put it in was the right one.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

The card doesn't get enough power with only one plug connected.
That's probably why it's "slow".

I got a connector and have both plugs in the card and it still doesn't help.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

I still cannot get my blu ray hd drive to recognize the card for HDCP support. It says it is not compliant and yet this exact set up was with 2 lesser video cards so it must be something else.

What driver version are you using?

This is the latest driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvist...9.25_whql.html

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

I have that and it says graphics card driver 7.15.11.6925 and I have searched for a meaning but cannot find one.

I also found this thing called PureVideoHD or something like that but it has no vista downloads that I found.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

Your computer should, of course, be able to run Crysis with high settings.
Have a look at this tweaking guide: http://www.techsupportforum.com/gami...ance-look.html

As for the HDCP. The 8800's, among other cards, do have problems with HDCP.
http://news.softpedia.com/news/8800-...CP-41099.shtml
What monitor/video output are you using?
See if you can change the settings in the nVidia control panel.

Download and run SensorsView and check the temps/voltages after playing Crysis for 5-10 minutes.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

I have an Acer AL2223W widescreen monitor that worked with 2 8600 cards with hd and blu ray movies.

I have tries both hdmi - dvi and the component cable out on the video card to tv.

So a second 8800 won't fix my HDCP woes?

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

Did you try SensorsView?
No, a second card won't fix the HDCP problems (and it would kill your PSU).

Please run this power calculator: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp
Set capacitor aging to 20%, click Calculate. Add 30% to the final result.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

Thanks for your PM.
You have to upgrade the PSU.
Have a look at this excellent guide: Power Supply Information and Selection

Concerning the HDCP:
I think you should show that BFG tech this screenshot:

You have to get Vista 64-bit to use all 4GB.
however and talking from personal experience you cannot install 64bit vista on a machine with 4Gb or memory in it, otherwise it just blue screens, you have to remove all memory except 2Gb and download patch from microsoft. cant remember which patch it is tho

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

I was pondering upgrading to a BFG 9800 GTX 512mb to avoid anymore problems and sell the 8800 on ebay and be done with it.

Then again the 9800's have to be bridged for SLI which means my motherboard is useless and according to that site I need a new PSU and then if upgraded I'd need another motherboard and that's pretty much another grand into my pc.

On the other hand that extra grand allows me to use 3 way sli.

I think you're on the the wrong track...
What motherboard do you have?

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

I have the XFX nForce 680i LT SLI motherboard. It has good reviews and is compliant with everything because again everything worked before the 8800gtx.

I don't think a new PSU will open up HDCP and that's my concern.

Yes, I need a new PSU because I noticed my 8800 and PSU are a little warm.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB

BFG should give you a new card, IMHO (for having bad support ).
And, no, a new PSU won't enable HDCP (of course), but the computer is underpowered.
