When video card doesn't work in a system..
In my parents computer, a couple years ago, I installed a GeForce 6800 128MB AGP card. It worked fine for a while but after 6 months or so it started giving my problems- the computer would randomly restart(although very predictably if I tried to play any game) and ran much slower. The problem was solved after I took out the GPU and replaced it with the old FX 5200.
The thing I'm wondering is- why did it work for 6 months and then start messing up my system. Was it just an incompatibility or did my card fail or something? I know of anyone else who has an AGP slot so I cant check it in their system. |

Re: When video card doesn't work in a system..
My guess would be the PSU.
The card probably put strain on the power supply, Causing it to generate more heat which = a lower power output, and over time this has led the power supply to output not enough power to run the system when its under strain ( IE playing a game etc ).
