[SOLVED] nvidia 8500GT gameplay issues
I have a clean system which I just installed xp pro.
All this stuff is brand new. AMD x2 6000+ Asus m5v plus motherboard leadteak 8500 gt graphics 2GB apacer RAM 160 GB SATA Maxtor hd 500w Thermaltake power supply Now I can play any games properly on this system. What happens is the game will start to run normally and then every thirty or forty seconds the game frame rate drops down virtually nothing for five or so seconds. I even have trouble with old games like Day of Defeat which runs fine on a Pentium 4 2G machine with 128 meg ATI 9200 graphics card and 512 meg of RAm so it should absolutely fly on this machine. I have trouble with every game I have tried. I have done all the normal things to fix such an issue. New motherboard and graphics drivers etc. I then reinstalled windows xp with service pack 2 and just the game and still the problem persists. There is not even virus scanner or spybot on the system just Battlefield 2 and no other software. With factory drivers, Leadtek drivers and nvidia drivers it the problem still persists. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this issue? Last edited by frogspasm; 04-22-2008 at 06:27 AM. Reason: omission |

Re: nvidia 8500GT gameplay issues
Welcome to tsf. Does the problem persist of you turn down the graphic settings in your games? Give it a try and let us know what happens before we try other things. What else are you running besides the game? Sounds like your computer is busy with a another task besides the game.

Re: nvidia 8500GT gameplay issues
hi, thanks for the welcome Emosun.
Does the problem persist when I turn down the graphic in the games? Yes and No Battlefield 2 is appreciably better but it makes no difference in Covert Strike 2. It is also a problem in Day of Defeat which runs flawlessly on a Pentium 4 2GHz with an ATI Radeon 9200 128mb. So there is an issue still there. What else is running? well I just reinstalled windows. It is a clean system. The problem was there without virus scanner and spybot. Now because I wanted to go on the net I put in AVG and Spybot. Not really anything that would hog processing. Oh yeah I also tried turning off one of the cores in processor for the game and that made no difference.(in case the old games couldn't deal with dual core) The thing is the system is much much faster than the system requirements of these games . I have four times the ram, four times the processing power and four times the graphics Ram above the minimum system requirements so you think it would run properly wouldn't you? The system requirements for Battlefield 2 is: SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS * Windows XP (32-bit) with Admin rights * 1.7 GHz Intel Celeron D / Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP/ Sempron or greater * 512 MB of RAM or more * 8x or faster CD/DVD drive * 2.3 GB free hard drive space or more * Video: DirectX 9.0c compatible (see video) * Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible (Sound Blaster X-Fi series recommended ) VIDEO Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets: * NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater * ATI Radeon 8500 or greater Last edited by frogspasm; 04-24-2008 at 10:21 AM. |

Re: nvidia 8500GT gameplay issues
Are there any tasks you can see running in the taskbar that are hogging up resources while playing the games? Does it only happen if you play online? What do all the games do on single player with the internet turned off?

Re: nvidia 8500GT gameplay issues
No nothing is running except ,AVG anti virus and spybot and they are not runnning a scan. There is nothing else on the machine run.
The games are an issue in single player mode and online. It makes no difference if the internet is on or off. |

Re: nvidia 8500GT gameplay issues
I have now tried a different graphics card and different RAM so what the hell is up with this machine? It made no difference. So what is it the motherboard or the CPU?
