Extreme Monitor Flickering

Hello

Ok here's my problem. I have a Compaq Presario SR1103WM machine that runs Intel 82845G graphics controller. The machine is a few years old and it has a problem when the monitor is plugged into the on board video card. When I try to move my mouse on the screen or do anything like move a window around the desktop the screen flickers like crazy. It only happens when there is activity.

If there is a lot of activity at once the screen will go blank for so long and come back. I've downloaded the latest motherboard updates from the manufacturer, all the newest drivers for the card and yet it still flickers. I've also tried lower resolutions and changing the refresh rate but nothing helps!

I have another video card installed in the machine that only runs 800x600 and yes I'm sure it has the latest drivers at least I think it does. the other card is Cirrus Logic 5430/5440. Its rather old and the drivers are hard to find, that video card does not have a flickering problem when the monitor is hooked up to it but I cant get a higher resolution!

All I would really like to do is either solve this flickering issue and have a nice 1024x768 display or run something higher than 800x600 on my other card. If any of you have any kind of advice please let me know.

Re: Extreme Monitor Flickering

Ah , seems that I can rule out any monitor problems. You have the latest bios , motherboard and vga drivers? Also windows updates like sp2? If it still doesn't do it then I's say the onboard is just fried or the vga port on it is broke in some way. If the card works then you can get a cheap videocard on ebay that supports 1024x768. Also are you sure your monitor supports 1024x768?
