How can I improve my performance?
Hello! My system is pretty old but i've upgraded my RAM (from 0.5 gigs to 1.5 gigs) and my graphics card (from a geforce 5200 LE to a geforce 7900 GS). On some games like WoW and Guild Wars I have noticed an incease in FPS. However on games like CoD2 and CS:S my FPS is more or less the same (crap). My Specs: Windows XP Professional Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz 1534MB RAM 409MB used 3021MB available NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GS 512MB (AGP) .. Driver = nv4_disp.dll (latest one from nvidia site) That's all the things I think... If you need anymore system info just ask. Thanks!

Re: How can I improve my performance?
I can give you some simple tips in order to give you a little speed. Most good games now require at least 2 GB Ram and a faster processor and higher BUS Speed. First, I would go into the System Properities, Advanced, then Performance and turn off all of the Fade and scrolling options. Then go into Computer Management and ensure that the Windows Indexing Service, Messenger Service, Task Scheduler etc. and all other services that are not need are killed and set to manual or disable. Dump your %Temp% file folder, clean you cache and all temp. internet files and unneeded cookies. Dump the C:/windows/temp folder. Download a defragmenting Utility such as O&O Defragmeter (Windows version is no good). I would do a good Scan Disk, a good defrag and a Disk Clean up. Most gaming computers have toooo much superfluous non needed stuff running causing a slower system. These simple task have helped me. You probably have a slower motherboard and may want to consider getting a better motherboard or even a dual core. You can get the pretty cheap from sites such as geek, com. Thare are lots of peole here that can send you in the right direction on a good MOB.

Re: How can I improve my performance?
explorer.exe in most cases is about 19-20mb but it takes up the highest ram(when running nothing else).20 mb of ram may seem small but its possible to get a good 10% boost in performance.

Re: How can I improve my performance?
Can you please download PC Wizard and install (from my sig). Then go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Then save the text file and copy its contents into this thread. Also include what psu do you have (make and model)?

Re: How can I improve my performance?
PSU = power supply unit. You should see a significant improvement from a 5 - 7 series gforce card. An underpowerd psu can cause your lack of performance. I need to know what it is, so take the side off your machine and read the sticker on the PSU. thanks

Re: How can I improve my performance?
You require a new PSU for that card (7900GS). Your PSu is low quality and can only handle 15A or so, the 7900GS requires 20A min but at TSF we suggest 26A. Look the Power SUpply Info for further ideas about what to get.
