8800GTX Sli

System Setup is as follows:

Intel E6600 processor - Dual core 2.4 overclocked to 3.0GHz
Asus Striker Extreme Mobo
2gig XMS2 800MHz Ram
2x8800GTX SLi

My question is this, in COD 4, my framerate is usually averaging between 90-130fps, with my graphics cards, it should be higher than this I believe. It's none of the game settings, max FPS etc. I have two theories, my graphics cards are buggered, or I'm bottlenecking somewhere else.

Does anyone have a similar setup, do they get similar fps, or does anyone have anyidea what in the system is causing the issue?

Many Thanks
Vgfh

Re: 8800GTX Sli

Thats a good speed my card is only about half that on one 8800 gtx and it gets about 30

Sli does not give you back another 100% proformance over one card its closer to 40-50

No i am sorry to disagree, but imho that is low. What psu do you have? What resolution do you play at?

Re: 8800GTX Sli

The human eye only sees 30fps , don't know why your complaining thats a very good framerate lol. If you want to speed it up further you should change that pentium D to a core to duo or quad.

That's not true, and also doesn't have much to do with gameplay.

Check this link out, you might find it enlightening: http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frame...humans_see.htm

That processor (the current one) should do just fine, I don't think an upgrade would do much, if anything, to increase the frame rate.

vgfh, what powersupply do you have? If these cards are underpowered, they'll be throttled down to reflect that, so I would look at that first as a possible culprit.

My understanding is that this confusion comes from the movie industry where they use between 24 - 30 fps to make motion "look natural". This is not however the limitation of the human eye, otherise we would not be able to drive cars.

PSU is likely culprit here.

Re: 8800GTX Sli

See thats weird , I watched a whole discovery channel show just about eyes , and they said its only 30fps. Well anyway , I'll believe you guys lol. Gotta stop watching tv.

I still thin he should change the cpu anyway , hes got 500$ or more of videocards and a 80$ cpu. Mine was 80$ last year so maybe it went down.

Re: 8800GTX Sli

The E6600 was 250 last time I checked. I would be very impressed if you got it for 80.

Re: 8800GTX Sli

Indeed, the E6600 is a core duo, not a pD. Currently retails for about £150 so about $250.

The powersupply is a 800W, I forget the exact make, I'll check when I get back to the house, but it's one of the ones Nvidia recomends for a 2x8800sli setup.

Currently I have the res at 1900x1200 and before you say that's the problem, I have taken it down to 800x600 with all the pretties off and not seen an improvement, which in itself confused the hell out of me to be honest, as I pretty much know for fact that should have made some improvement.

As to complaining, the game is more than playable at those FPS's, but that's not my concern, my concern is that the system is underperforming and obviously has an issue somewhere in its setup that I need to resolve, otherwise I'll be force to get a new rig in the not too distant future, when what I have should be Ok for at least another year or two.

Just found my order history for my PSU: Etasis ET850 850W PSU

Re: 8800GTX Sli

That still sounds like a cpu limit but 850 may be alittle on the low side this is the power consumtion of one http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...800_gtx_g80/18

Re: 8800GTX Sli

I do have the Q9450 on order, been wanting to go quad for a while. And I do have some mem upgrade coming, corsair TW2X4096C5DF which is the dominator 1066mhz kit (8GB total [going vista 64 ]) I guess that'll answer if it's a CPU problem.

As to the PSU, the reviews of the etasis said it was more than capable of handling 8800gtx SLi, and like I said it is on NVidias recommended list, could it really be that the PSU is the issue?
