[SOLVED] GeForce 7600 will not POST

Hi
I have just purshased a GeForce 7600 GS 512MB DDR2 AGP 8x to replace the existing built-in VGA card in my PC which has a ASRock P4S61 Motherboard.
It using Pentium 4 with HyperThreading technology with 1Gig mem
After installing the new AGP card PC will not post, no graphic output, unable to boot to bios, just site there with the fans running.
Power supply looks OK, Bios setting look correct.
ASRock manual give no direction if there needs to be a jumper set on mob.
Have I an incompatability problem or can anyone suggest anything that I may have missed
Thanks

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Hi

Make sure the card is seated correctly - it may take moderate force.
There should be a "click" when the card is in place.

The motherboard should detect the card automatically and disable the onboard graphics.
In BIOS: Set Primary graphics adapter to AGP.

A common mistake is forgetting to move the monitor plug to the card. Done that myself.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

The motherboard manual doesn't mention any jumper or BIOS setting to disable the onboard graphics.
Try the card in another computer to see if it's OK.
Or try another card AGP in your computer.

What power supply (brand/model) do you have?

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Hi again
The power supply is a Macron MPT-300.
I have discounted this, because to eliminate the PSU I disconnected all Loadings on it other than Hard Drive and Motherboard and still it would not boot.
Will try the new AGP card in another PC, but this will be next week, when I have access to another m/c
Thanks for your advise so far.
Best wishes
Ray

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

The PSU only has 10A on the +12V rail.
You need 18A to run the card.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Thanks much appreciated.
Would you recommend this one which I have selected from the Power supply choises, [see url], or would you go up a level to say a 24A type

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

That's a good PSU - but overkill for your computer.
And it has 4 x 18A on the four +12V rails - much more than 24A.
If you're planning to build a new computer it's a good investment.

Have a look at this quality supply - it's almost half the price ($70) and has two +12V rails with 17A each - more than 30A total on the +12V:

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Before you order it - make sure it will fit the case and the motherboard.
Have a look at the sticker on your PSU - if it says ATX there shouldn't be any problems.
Please post the info you find on the sticker.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Can't see ATX on it though this is not its first PSU and I am sure the previous one had ATX on it.
Checked the dimensions 14x8.6x15cm which looks good.
Data on current PSU is:-
Input 115v 6A 60Hz
230v 3A 50Hz

Output Red +5 30A
Yellow +12 10A
White -5V 0.5A
Blue -12V 0.8A
Purple 3.3V 14A
Brown +5 VSB 2A
Orange PG
Black GND
Gray PS ON

Thanks again

Yep, it's ATX. I'm cringing at the +12V rail on that PSU...

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

There won't be any problems then - normal ATX measures.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Hi Again
I have replaced the PSU.
However when I install the AGP card I still have the same problem, PC
will not POST.

PC sits there with Fans running and does not get as far as being able
to get to the Bios.

Removing card and restarting twice [1st time locks up] I am then able
to get to the Bios.

I can then make change like, PCI bus master = Enable and in Resources,
change PCI to AGP.
If I save the changes and restart, Add new AGP card, I still have the
same problem, No POST, and when I move back and look at the Bios, no
Bios changes have taken place.
Could I have a faulty Card?
Unfortunatly I don't have another PC which I can test this in
Any further sugestions would be most appreciated
Thanks

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Sounds a bit strange that BIOS doesn't save the changes.

Is there another AGP card you can borrow to see if the motherboard is OK?

What brand is the 7600GS?

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Hi
The Brand is Nvidia GeForce
No I don't have another AGP, I brought it off eBay so it difficult to just take it back to the supplyer and ask them to test it.
I am reluctant to update the Bios[unless it's recommended], in case it then became unstable or unusable.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

You shouldn't have to update the BIOS.
With brand I mean EVGA, XFX, ASUS etc.
The 7600GS cards doesn't have a connector for extra power, AFAIK - but have a look anyway.

The best way to test would be to borrow an AGP card.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

The only other marking on the Box is FX
I will have to see if I can borrow another make to prove out the Bios or motherboard.
This may take a day or two.

Re: GeForce 7600 will not POST

Hi
Current update.
AGP card has been tested in another Workstation with a known working AGP port and I get the same responce, NO POST.
The card has to be faulty.
Will now take this issue up with the Ebay supplier.
Thanks for all your support
