A How-to Question With my Computer

My brand new computer is here and I love it. Theres one thing that I need to clear up and I can't get an answer anywhere.

First heres the computer:

http://electronics.hsn.com/gateway-t...215535_xp.aspx

Next to the Portable Media Bay and Headphone jack. Theres a RCA input, But I don't know how to get the Monitor to recieve the input from the computer.

P.S. I had no idea where this should've gone.

Hi. . .

I am primarily software... but my curiosity was peaked when I saw the letters "RCA" (my Grandfather was a VP with RCA).

I took a look at your link, but I wanted to see what you were speaking about up-close. I found a nice picture of the I/O ports with the door open - HERE. The red, yellow and white connections on the right side are definitely RCA "F" - as far as I remember. I also see that the description to the right of that says -

• One composite video RCA jack (yellow)
• One left channel audio out RCA jack (white)
• One right channel audio out RCA jack (red)

I can't read the tiny writing by each of the colored plugs to see "IN" or "OUT" - so looking at the above description from Gateway - I wonder why the audio for both says "out" but not the video - a typo maybe? I would assume that it is an output. If so, how are you connecting it to a PC monitor? My recollection is that these type of connections (RCA-F) are for TV, DVD, VCR, etc... type of devices. I just don't remember seeing a PC moniter with an "F" connector - only PS/2, USB, etc... But the number that I have actually seen is minimal.

Anyway, regardless whether this post is of any help or not, at least you now have some good descriptive pictures of your system! The full link for your Gateway GM5688E Desktop Computer can be found HERE.

Good Luck to you - and enjoy Vista!

Regards. . .

Re: A How-to Question With my Computer

Check the peripheral ports; 780G based motherboards come with a HDMI connector which can carry mixed signals (audio and video) as well as the onboard VGA port for the monitor and the audio jacks there for speakers/microphone. Here's the back interface picture: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/10...332Rrvr6.shtml

Re: A How-to Question With my Computer

Thats weird. that little text next to the ports on my computer reads in.

Could anyone link me to an item that will convert a HDMI, DVI, or RGB input to an RCA input if such device exists?

Since I'm intending to use the monitor as my only TV source I need some RCA inputs for my Wii and (original) xbox. I'd rather pony up for a RCA input than specific cables for the systems mentioned since I have other devices that I travel with that use RCA ports.

You guys are the best.
