[SOLVED] no picture with card, but card works fine

just got a dell optiplex 755, and when i got it, i wanted to swap all the hardware to a different case, including swapping the dell videocard with my evga nvidia 7900gt. the dell videocard is an ati radeon 2400xt. i installed a new powersupply into the dell (came with a 305W, replaced with a 610W), and it worked fine.

then i decided to install the 7900gt. from the desktop, i removed the drivers for the ati from the device manager, and shut down. i remove the power, and swap in the 7900gt. boot things up, and i get no picture whatsoever. no picture during the boot process or after. windows still boots to the desktop though (i can hear it).

i tried everything. tried different cables from the powersupply, checked the fan on it, put it back in my old machine (which it worked flawlessly in), put the ati back into it (which also worked flawlessly), tried both dvi ports on the card with 2 different vga-dvi adapters. i cant install the nvidia drivers with the ati card in.

the guy from dells support line said he had no clue as to why it wasnt working. he said it isnt a dell proprietary videocard thing, that any card should work in it. and the guy from evga's support line said it might be a bios thing (which he said he doubts) or that there is some random incompatibility with that exact mobo and videocard.

im at a loss of ideas.

EDIT: This is all on Windows XP Home Edition

That's rather odd. Do you have the auxiliary power connector plugged into the 7900GT? You could also try a CMOS reset.

Re: no picture with card, but card works fine

the power connecter to the 7900GT is the pci connecter (its a 6 pin, 2x3 connecter). i dont think its the power since i tried 2 difference pci power connecters, as well as a molex to pci power connecter, and that didnt work either.

im not very familiar with the bios and all of that, is that like restoring factory defaults?

Yes, it's like restoring factory defaults

CMOS reset:
Unplug your PC from the wall socket
Move CMOS reset pins from 1-2 to 2-3
Wait for 10 mins
Move CMOS reset pins from 2-3 back to 1-2
Plug in the PC

Re: no picture with card, but card works fine

well, nothing worked. solving this by returning to dell and building a computer off of newegg with a new, awesome mobo and an eVGA 8800GT 512MB superclocked GPU. thanks anyway guys for trying to help.

Getting Direct3D 9 interface...

Video card or driver doesn't accelerate transform and lighting.
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

Error during initialization:

The specs of my computer are:

Intel Core Duo 1.73 GHZ
