Gforce 8600GT Super 512 not working

Hi guys, I'm brand new to this site. I have had a look around and I can't seem to find an answer to this question. I have just bought a Gforse 8600GT super 512 and have installed in my computer and it won't work.

Here is what happens:

I boot u the comp and all goes well until the XP screen appears.
The screen turns to a blue screen full of whit writting (dissapears too quickly to read)

The comp then restarts and asks me to boot in safe mode.
Then XP screen comes up followed by blue screen the reboot again.

I have a
Gigabyte GA-VM900M MB
3G DDR 2 ram

Currently using onboard Vid to get computer to work.

ANY help at all would be hugely apreciatted

Greg

Re: Gforce 8600GT Super 512 not working

Hi,

May I ask how much wattage is your power supply running? Did you un-install the previous video-card drivers first before you installed this one?

Protoss_Archon
I don't know what wattage my powersupply is running I thing it is 450W, at least that is what is written on the side of it.

I have onboard video and tried to unitstall the driver under device manager but not sure if i did it correctly, I think I did as the next boot up on the old onboard video I had to reinstall the drivers for the video.

Re: Gforce 8600GT Super 512 not working

This is a driver issue.

You need to do the following:
  1. Download (but do not install yet) Driver Cleaner here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 on the machine you are accessing the internet with and save the application to a thumbdrive or something similar to transfer to the affected machine.
  2. Do the same with this (dont install yet): http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...glish_whql.exe

  3. Enter safe mode (tap F8 on restart) on the affected machine.
  4. Disable any antivirus software.
  5. Go to Add and Remove Programmes and uninstall any display drivers (e.g. nVidia or ATi).
  6. Install Driver Cleaner (downloaded at 1) and run it for nVidia and ATi.
  7. Restart in safe mode again (tap F8 on start)
  8. Install the nVidia driver downloaded at 2.
  9. Restart normally (enter bios and ensure onboard video is switched off).

Post outcome. If this doesn't work, then download PC Wizard from my sig and install it in safe mode. Then go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Then save the text file and copy its contents into this thread. Also post what PSU you have (make and model) - ie report what is on that sticker.

Re: Gforce 8600GT Super 512 not working

Thanks for the tips Bigfella. It turns out that when I turned off the ACPI in windows and rebooted the video card work fine. HOWEVER now I have no sound as it doesn't work with the ACPI off!!!!! Computers, who needs them.

Also would the steps explained above help still or is it a conflict on the MOBO? I tried four differnt video cards and the same ting happend with all of them! Do i just need a bigger power supply?

Is this all you needed or was i supposed to go into other screens? This is a pretty neat program.
