GF Video card not detected

hi,
I've just bought a XFX Geforce 7600GT (PCI-e), installed it and my computer doesn't detect it.
My MB is an ECS Geforce6100SM-M2 with onboard graphics.
I've set the onboard GPU to "Enable if no ext. GPU" and set the primary display to PCI-e but it's still not detected. In windows i disabled the Onboard GPU but when i boot i now get "Default Monitor" instead of nForce 405. The Card's fan runs so there must be power going to it, (PSU is 400W)
Can anyone help me?,
thanks.

Re: GF Video card not detected

I assume you have installed the drivers?

If not here: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...glish_whql.exe

Re: GF Video card not detected

Just installed them, but the card still isn't detected.
Those drivers have reduced the nforce 405 onboard GPU to 4bit @ 640x400

Re: GF Video card not detected

Ok
  1. Download (or keep this if you still have it): http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...glish_whql.exe
  2. Download this: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745
  3. Run Driver Cleaner it for nVidia and ATi drivers.
  4. Restart in Safe Mode (tap F8 on start)
  5. Install the nViidia driver.
  6. Restart.

Re: GF Video card not detected

your power supply needs to be putting out a min of 26amps on the 12v+ line[s] to run the card
it also needs to be a quality brand

Re: GF Video card not detected

Well on the PSU label it says:
+12V 20A MAX (The brand is Win Power)

I cleaned the drivers, booted in safemode and installed the drivers.
Still got 4Bit 640x400

Re: GF Video card not detected

winpower are low quality and it's not supplying enough amps on the 12v+ line
you need something like this in there

Re: GF Video card not detected

I was looking at the BFG version of the 7600GT and they say only 20A are required. Is there any other thing that might be stopping the card being recognised?

Re: GF Video card not detected

to run underpowered or with a low quality supply could cost you multiples of that figure when the supply goes

If i were to buy a PSU with a dedicated PCI-e cable, will that supply enouh Amps to the Card?
And is there any decent (but reasonbly priced) PSU's in UK Shops?

Re: GF Video card not detected

FireFx, please read the PSU Info in my sig and make a selection there, otherwise state the intended brand and model of psu you will be selecting and we'll tell you if it will match your requirements.
