loss of graphics signal
I am currently running a Biostar 7300 GT graphics card to a Samsung LCD screen.
Recently my image started to vibrate and get fine white lines like static across the screen. Following that my screen would lose the signal from the computer for a few seconds with the intervals of the signal being lost increasing the longer my computer was kept on. I have connected my laptop to the screen and appear to not get the problem. What could possibly be causing this? Is this a mother board or a graphics card malfunction? Please can someone help. |

Re: loss of graphics signal
Welcome to TSF.
![]() Sounds like a heat problem. Get rid of static electricity by touching a radiator or bare metal on the computer case. Then unplug the computer from the wall outlet and open the case. Remove dust inside with canned, compressed air. Make sure the fans and heatsinks (CPU and video card) are clean. You can monitor the temperatures and voltages with Speedfan. |

Re: loss of graphics signal
Ran the programme again and I see its actually the core of the graphics card that is reaching over 50 degrees C. I have taken a look and I don't see any dust on the fan or heatsink. The fan is working. Any thoughts?

Re: loss of graphics signal
If you are not cleaning your CPU fan you probably did not cleaned your Power Supply fan neither [I am just guessing :) ]
And how strong and how old is your Power Supply? Maybe that is the problem, a lack of power to the perifferal devices might be the problem why is your graphic card overheating. |

Re: loss of graphics signal
No I hav'nt yet cleaned the power supply. How do I get the full run down of the specs of my pc? I am running XP. Thanks. If I remember correctly the power supply is about a year old and is 350W. I havent yet had this problem though, so the power hasn't been a problem yet.

Re: loss of graphics signal
You have to open the case - there's a sticker on the PSU.
To get the rest of the specs: Download " TSFdemo1" file, unpack and run it. In "Tech Support Forum Hardware Reader" >> click "Copy to clipboard" >> paste the info in your post. |

Re: loss of graphics signal
Get rid of static electricity by touching a radiator or bare metal on the computer case.
Then unplug the computer from the wall outlet and open the case. Take the video card out - then put it back. Make sure it's seated correctly - all the way in the slot. Fasten the card with a screw at the back of the case. Try another video card (or try your card in another computer). Sounds like your card "has ceased to be". Your PSU is weak. What brand/model? How old is it? |

Re: loss of graphics signal
Not sure what make. Ill check tonight. Its about a year old. However, when I plug in the power cable there is a quick surge of power through the computer while it is still off. That cant be good?
If I have to get another card, I was looking at the 8600GT 256 DDR3 card, what power supply should I get to support this? My current card is a biostar. Is this a bad make? Last edited by tux1308; 04-08-2008 at 10:34 AM. |

Re: loss of graphics signal
See if you can borrow a video card first.
To run an 8600GT with your computer you'd need a quality PSU with at least 430W - preferably 500W. Good PSU info here: Power Supply Information and Selection Last edited by Deleted090308; 04-08-2008 at 10:35 AM. |
