About to buy a new video card, Need help.

I am hoping to buy a new video card right now, and I am curious if my mother board will support it. The video card I want to buy is this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...127284&Tpk=MSI

My current motherboard is an Intel® Desktop Board DG965RY and I am mostly worried that it doesn't have the proper power connector.

If it does not, if you would like to please link a video card that is supported by my motherboard (preferabbly below $100 with the rebate factored in).

Thanks for any help you can give me

HRM, welcome to TSF!

According to this http://www.intel.com/products/mother...65RY/index.htm your board has a PCIe 16 slot, so that card should be fine!

Can you please tell me what PSU you have?

Re: About to buy a new video card, Need help.

I checked a bit, my comp does have enough power to support it. Only other issue i have right now is whether or not it will fit into the case. I have been searching everywhere and i cannot find the dimensions for the thing so I am a tad worried about it fitting in the case.

Please look at the box that provides the power to your computer. On it you will see a sticker. Can you take a photo and post it in the thread?

Re: About to buy a new video card, Need help.

Sorry that took so long, digital camera was recharging XD i had to write it down.

(that and dinner was just made hah)

The sticker read like this: Model Number: ATX-300PN

AC Input: 110-120/220-40V/7/4A 60/50Hz

DC Output: 300w

+3.3v
+12v2

(3.3v+5v=120w Max, Max )(+12v1%+12v2=264w max)
I believe this is what you were asking for. If the power supply isnt enough could you please link a graphics card that is supported :D thank you for your help.

Hi mate that psu you will need to be replaced too unfortunately as it is low powered and quality.

With the card you mentioned, you will need something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=corsair%2b520

Re: About to buy a new video card, Need help.

I was trying to stay low on the price range so do you know if this PSU will be enough? Id like to avoid spending $100 if i can XD.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148027

Also i was looking at this graphics card (a downgrade from the other one)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127295

From what i read, it doesnt appear to be as demanding. Id like to avoid replacing parts in the comp if i can XD.

What are you planning to do with it? Is it for gaming? The 8500 is to be avoided, and to be honest, the psu is poor quality.

Let me know what you want to do, e.g. gaming, which games, media center, just basic computing.

Re: About to buy a new video card, Need help.

I might go for this PSU:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371005

Although this may seem like a worse deal, as this psu is rated at 380w instead of 500 and is 5$ more expensive, you get Antec quality which means high efficiency, reliability, and truth in watt ratings. I wouldn't buy from a relatively unknown manufacturer, as they tend to skimp on PSU's.

and a card like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130311

or a similar 8600gt. Should get you pretty good performance for your price range. You wouldn't want to buy a card any beefier than an 8600gt on that PSU, though. If you choose another one, get a 256 DDR3 model rather than a 512 DDR2 model- it will be faster due to faster ram, despite the smaller amount.

Re: About to buy a new video card, Need help.

I pretty much want the graphics card for WoW, I dont do much gaming outside of that. I'll get a new PSU along with the card. Thanks again for all the help :D.

Re: About to buy a new video card, Need help.

Please make sure you get a quality PSU, otherwise you will be in no better position, and risk damaging your components. Read the PSU info from my sig, in there will be a list of PSU's that are good quliaty with links. Also, i would try and go for a minimum of a 8600 if you can.
