which is the better card?
Hi all,
ive just been offerd this card dirt cheap http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=PLT-861GHD but since i dont know much about cards im not sure if is any better or much of an improvement to what i have already!!(sparkle geforce 256mb 7900gs) any advise would be most helpfull thanx http://www.redstore.com/SPAGPC052

A 7900 GS and 8600 GT are actually pretty close to each other in speed. I doubt there are any direct benchmarks which compare the two due to the age of the 7900 GS but you can see an approximate speed rating on this page. The 1 gig of RAM on the 8600 GT is pointless. It would go almost the same speed with 256 MB and definitely doesn't need more than 512 MB. The one benefit would be that the 8600 GT has DirectX 10 support whereas the 7900 GS is "only" DirectX 9. DirectX 10 support will be more useful someday but right now it's just a good way to slow games to a crawl for subtle visual improvements. Someday it will be really cool once games start supporting it properly.
