Cry [SOLVED] 8600 gts, monitor won't boot

I've just bought an xfx 8600 gts gpu to replace my xfx 7600 gt xxx. I installed the new card exactly as stated, disabled the 7600 and any on board graphics. Connected everything right (6 pin pci-e power cable etc) but everthing except my monitor will boot. I just get a black screen and no LED on the monitor. I've heard that some motherboards arn't compatible with the 8 series cards and that some 8 series cards are PCI-E 2.0 only. Any help would be appreciated.
System Specs:

Compaq Presario SR1705uk (upgraded a bit)
Intel Pentium 4 631 3.0 ghz, 2 mb cache (ceder mill core)
X-power GTX Light 480w +3.3v-25a +5v-30a +12v1-20a +12v2-18a
ATI RC410-m motherboard Rev 1.01a
2x 1gb DDR2 SDram pc4200 533mhz
Samsung 7200 80 gb HD
XFX 7600 gt xxx (current card)

Yes. This is a link to my graphics card on the official XFX website.

Re: 8600 gts, monitor won't boot

it is not listed as v2.0
see if you can borrow a better quality higher wattage power supply to try in it

Re: 8600 gts, monitor won't boot

I dont have another supply to try out unfortunitly but I have checked and do have more than the recommended power supply. I have also tried with only the graphics card and HD connected to minimise energy consumption but it still does not work. All I do not have is the specific 6pin power connecter (double ended) XFX cable to connect the power supply to the card. Could this be posing the problem?

Re: 8600 gts, monitor won't boot

if the supply does not have the connections time to upgrade it
whatever the recommended is you can usually bank on needing close to double it

Re: 8600 gts, monitor won't boot

I will try find a higher power supply and post my results. The connection cable I have is the same as the required, just not the specific brand double end (xfx) recommended by the graphics card.

Thankyou for your help, I will post again if I get anymore information.

Grin Re: 8600 gts, monitor won't boot

The card was faulty, got a replacement 7950 GT which runs as well as I need it to and has some cool heat rods instead of a noisy fan.
