Re: GF 8800GT - No Video out on TV
From what I read, I understand you want to use your TV as a secondary monitor? You can do 1 of 2 things with your tv -
1. Set up a clone display - this makes your tv show exactly what your monitor is displaying. This is good for powerpoints, vids, etc and similar presentations. 2. Set up a secondary display. You can drag windows from your monitor onto your TV. For example, I once set up my command prompt on my TV while leaving netstat on my monitor. Here is how I personally set up my TV: 1. Completely shut down the computer so that it is turned off. 2. using an RCA adapter (included with your video card, possibly one port, or possibly 3 ports on wires connected at the base, colored red, blue, and green), connect an RCA cable into the yellow RCA (game) port on your TV and the other end into one of the three RCA ports connected to your computer's video card. 3. TURN THE TV ON. This is what messed me up at first. The TV MUST be turned on or else the computer will not recognize it when it boots. 4. Turn the computer on. The tv screen will probably display for a second or two and go blank again. No worries. 5. Go to the control panel supplied with your video card, and find your display settings. Use the nvidia control panel help menu if necessary to find the specific instructions on setting up multiple displays. It should be located in something like 'displays' or 'display settings'. There will be a drop box with different set up scenarios; you probably want the one that says monitor+tv, and not tv+monitor, as with the second scenario, the tv is your primary display and the monitor is your secondary, which I dont think you want. Clicking OK to that should activate your tv out function. NOTE: depending on your tv, your desktop resolution may be required to stay at 800x600 for the TV to correctly display your desktop, since 800x600 is the standard TV resolution for older analog sets. If you are using an HD 1080i, 1080p, etc, then im not sure what the res would have to be for that, but 1024x768 should be the LEAST you could expect, almost certainly more. Hope this helps. I feel kind of iffy writing this, I just bought a pair of nvidia 8600 gt's myself, and I cant get my tv to stay on. It will display and flicker and then go blank again... What I wrote was based on my experience with trying to get mine to work, as well as using my tv with no problems with my old ATI radeon x1650 pro card. Steps I listed 1 through 4 are pretty much universall; you'll do those no matter whawt kind of card or TV you have, so that should get you almost done. If what I said doesnt work, play with the control panel and dont be embarrassed to use the help menu. Hope this helped a little.
