Re: Need to buy a new AGP card
Fastest agp ever made was the radeon x1950 , which would be the fastest you could get and easily under 200$. might require a psu upgrade.
The most latest agp card they make are the 2600 xt agp's which are dx10 compatible. Also under 200. I don't really think there are any agp cards that are over 200 $ infact . lol . Also , the geforce 6600 you have should play that game fine as it requires hardly any video power, most people can even play it with onboard.

Re: Need to buy a new AGP card
heres the vid card i got
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll....cWON.m313.lVI Iv already gotten the card here, installed it on my computer.. works freakin awsome.. my framerate was at 60fps and it stayed right there, didnt go down at all!! weellll that was riiight before my computer went... BEEeewwwp....~ lol.. recomended power supply for this card is 350! i have 250!! haha... awsome... well its a good thing i also ordered this the same day i ordered the card!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll....cWON.m313.lVI hope its compatable with my motherboard, pretty sure it is.. and it says p4 compatable, im assuming that its talking about my intel pentium 4?? am i right? also ordered this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll....cWON.m313.lVI .. because once i get my system running nice and reliably.. i wont be using my nvidia card, and my bios will be unlocked (pretty sure nvidia overclocked cards lock the bios, atleast thats what ive heard) il be overclocking juust a little, im new to the overclocking scene.. so just a little at first :P im sure il get addicted also ordered these 2 thingys, for the hell of it.. i had the cash so why not eh? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll....cWON.m313.lVI http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll....cWON.m313.lVI **note** beeewwwp...~ was not a super bad thing.. power supply just couldnt handle the demand from this card, so it turned off, after i left the comp off for a few mins, all is well :) card is still installed, just not running my game today (dont feal like taking it out and putting the other one in yet :P ) the other items i ordered were shipped as 1 package for reduced shipping costs, should be here tomorow after work im sure.. Re: Need to buy a new AGP card
The power supply thats in that case is junk. The power supplies that come free with most cases are just cheap psu's that give poor inconsistent power. Your should really buy a quality psu to go into that system.

Re: Need to buy a new AGP card
What he means by poor inconsistent power is that the cheap PSUs that come with cases cant supply their rated wattage of power, like a 500w psu of poor quality would actually give 400w before it overloads. Also power supplies have voltage rails that supply power to the different components. On a poor quality psu these voltages would fluctuate up and down constantly which can damage computer components, like the 12volt rail would go down to 11.5 volts, then 1 second later up to 12.5 volts, then down again etc where a good psu would keep it at a stable 12 volts all the time with only very minor variations like 12.05volts or something
.Hope this helps. |

Re: Need to buy a new AGP card
the case and power suply got here... was a pain in the *** to install.. probly my biggest upgrade iv ever done.. just small things before, you know.. ram, vid card.. but this project waas massive XD case is awsome! its huge! room for 4 cd drives, 2 flopy, 8 hard drives.. the fan on it was a bit confusing to hook up to the power suply, the connectors are a bit... deceiving .. front power led had totally different connectors.. grabbed an old dusty comp from the garage, to get some wires.. spliced em, wrapped em up good, led works now... the side usb was also a pain there was 1 cable to connect 2 usb ports on my old case, this case had 2 cables.. that split off into 5 individual wire plugs each! thats 10 little bitty wires.. pain.. i just said f it for the front firewire and mic, and headphone jack for now.. airflow on the case is crazy! looks great, sounds quieter than my old one i guess
my old case.. i had the front faceplate and top faceplace ripped off, both the left and right pannel off, nice and naked, to keep the air flowing :P As for the power supply, it seems to be delivering so far, and its 600 watts, thats more than double my old 250. the power fluctuation thing sounds like it could be a problem, ill go ahead and order a new psu on friday.. itl work fine for now Last edited by twistdshade; 03-18-2008 at 08:10 PM. |
