[SOLVED] Vid Card?

Im planning on building a somewhat budget gaming rig soon. I was planning on getting 2x 9600gt sli, but i was reading, and there are rumors all over the internet of Nvidia releasing GT200 this summer. from looking at the specs, it is gonna be way more expensive than i can buy, but anybody have any idea or inclination ethier way? (i would only buy it if it were the same price as 2 9600gt s)

Re: Vid Card?

The 9800 gtx will be out pretty soon(this week or next maybe) , I wouldn't bother with two 9600's and wait for the 9800 gtx.

Re: Vid Card?

how much is budget? $300, or $1200? It depends on one's viewpoint. If it's close to the former, I doubt you'll be able to get a geforce 9 series card. Now that the new 9's are out, look for the higher-end 7-series (7800, 7900, 7950) to lower in price.

also: the 8800GT is now under $200 (Canadian).

Also also: i just saw this deal: Radeon 3650 for $80! (only in the Lower mainland region of Canada, near Vancouver). it's midrange, but still an excellent price.

Re: Vid Card?

I wouldn't waste money on a 7 series , or the 3650 as its just a 2600 with a different name pretty much. What is your price range? Because two 9600's would be 180$ each coming to 360$ That your price range?

Re: Vid Card?

Yeah, thats the max that i am going to spend on video cards. There is a rebate for 15 dollars off from newegg, so its 165 each about.

Re: Vid Card?

Well two 9600's would be faster then a single 8800 at the same price, and I don't think you could squeeze 2 8800's into that budget, or two 3870's. I'd say wait a while for the 9800's because I'm sure there not all only going to be 600$. But if you don't want to then I guess 9600's it is then.

Re: Vid Card?

why not get a geforce 7? a high-end one is now around $150, and is very fast, even compared to newer cards. Even a 7600 card would still outpace the 8600GT. In fact, apparently an FX5900 ultra is faster than an 8400GS. compare relative speeds here: http://www.playtool.com/pages/vidtable/table.html.

Re: Vid Card?

Compare to the 8 and 9 series , there old slow news. Plus they don't even support dx10 , the time to buy them was 2 years ago. But not now, not for a new rig. If hes got enough for an 8800 or dual 9600's then the 7 series can't come close, even if he got two 7900's for 300$ it wouldn't be as fast as one 200$ 8800 gt.

oh, right, i didn't see that, sorry. If it's that much, then by all means, go for a 9-series card!
