Post Video card issues again

Hi all,

Last time I visited TSF, I received help to update my RADEON 9600 Series graphics card with the latest Catalyst (7.1). Recently though, I have experienced problems relating to the graphics card when trying to play several games (Counter Strike Source, Battlefield 2, GuildWars etc.).

If anyone could guide me through a process to help me restore or fix my graphics card I would be much obliged.

Thanks, Mortson.

Re: Video card issues again

Sorry for the late reply, have been in Germany with school for a while.

My first post may have looked as though I know what I'm talking about; I don't, sorry. Where can I find the information you need?

for the power supply you have to take the side off the case and look at the label on the side

Re: Video card issues again

Ok this is what it says on the label:
AC Input: 230V - 5A 50Hz
DC Output: 300W

There is more but this is what you're looking for I think.

Also I am unable to view the link you sent me as I do not have the rights (or so the error message says).

Re: Video card issues again

FSU Group Inc. made the PSU. A video card is the same as a graphics card? I've got a RADEON 9600 series.

So basically what you're saying is that I need a new computer to play them on?

Re: Video card issues again

no it depends on what is in the computer
cpu
video
ram
if these are up to spec then you need a psu that will power them, being underpowered causes all kinds of problems that's why i requested the specs
the only spec you hve posted is
RADEON 9600
we can only offer advice on the details that are posted, they give us a picture of the computer

Re: Video card issues again

I said the guide you sent didn't work so you're gonna have to do one of two things:

Be a bit more patient because I have absolutely no idea how to find the spec of my computer or just give up on me.

Re: Video card issues again

Hello Mortson, just to help things along, Dai needs to get a very good idea of what PSU you have so that we can determine if it is up to the job of providing sufficient power to yoru system. Believe it or not, we see many problems associated with graphics, that result from poor quality and underpower power supply units (PSU's).

Unfortunately, the information we have about the Power Supply Unit is not really specfic enough to make a good jugdement, however 300W, on a probably lower quality PSU, is likely to be an issue.

Can you please try the following:
  1. Detail/describe in detail the issue you have (e.g., lag in games, graphical glitches, restarts/BSOD's). An example would be "Every time i start a game, i get strange green squares and then it shuts down/restarts".
  2. Open the computer and take a photo of the sticker on the PSU and post it in this thread.
  3. Make sure you have the latest DirectX here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
  4. Make sure your WIndows installation is up to date: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

By clearly describing your issue and giving us a photo of the PSU sticker, and that we know your system and DirectX is up to date,we should get to the bottom of this very quickly. Thanks

Thumbs Up Re: Video card issues again

Picture:

It is possible to rotate it and zoom in.

Thanks for the help bigfellla!

*EDIT* Sorry, I forgot the description of what happens
Whenever I load a game up, the screen goes black like it normally does but then switches immediately back to the desktop with no indication of an error message or anything. Another point to consider is that I am still able to play Age of Empires II which is a lot older that the other games in my signature.

Re: Video card issues again

Well done! Now can you please detail the problem exactly (as best you can) and confirm you followed the other instructions.

Also, you need to get a can of compressed air (available at any computer store), and blast out all that dust. Also, unblock that fan at the back.

cheers

Ok, so assuming the above (updated directx and windows):
  • Your PSU is a AOpen FSP300 60PN - power supply - 300 Watt (15A on +12V)
  • Game starts to open and then fails and returns to desktop.

I would suggest the following:
  1. Clean out the dust from your PC (using a can of compressed air)
  2. Unblock that exhaust fan
  3. Set a system restore point
  4. Download the driver you have again for your graphics card (dont install yet)
  5. Uinstall the driver in Add and Remove PRograms
  6. Use driver cleaner here: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745for the graphics driver
  7. Restart in Safe MOde (tap F8 on restart)
  8. Reinstall the driver downloaded at point 4

Restart normally.

If this doesn't work you will need to borrow a PSU and try it as the one you have is low quality and probably overheating.
