PC won't boot with AGP video card plugged in
Hi, i use a ATI 9800 PRO vid card/ASUS p4p-vm(integrated graphics motherboard) for a few years, i don't use my comp all that much, and it never gave me any problems.
One morning i tried to switch on my PC it wouldn't boot/post. No beep, no bios screen, no nothin. The only thing that appeared to be working was that the PSU was sourcing power, i.e fans spinning. So i opened up the comp and pulled all and parts out, put then in 1 by 1 and powering on to see pitch part had failed. Finally i figured that it was my video card. When it's plugged in, the comp wouldn't even beep/post. If i pull it out, the comp would boot into windows with no problem(using my integrated graphics port). My question is if it's a broken vid card, even if it's plugged in, wouldn't the PC at least boot anyway(beep sounds etc) just that that display wouldn't show anything. I don't understand why when the card is plugged in it wouldn't boot at at all and when it's not in it would. Not like it was a cpu or memory problem. Is this really caused by hardware failure? If it is,how can i test if it's my card is broken or the motherboard, if i don't have a spare card/motherboard lying around? Any help greatly appreciated!! thanks in advance. |

Re: PC won't boot with AGP video card plugged in
The card could be bad. Or the power supply has gotten so weak
that it doesnt have the juice to power the card anymore. That is why the onboard video is working, requires far less power.
