how to covert sound in videos

I'm a musician trying to convert sound on a band video. so I can eq it in my cubase(music program) but I dont know what type of sound is on video or what to save as.I have downloaded video convert program (still in the dark!) but once I convert I only hear sound and see the sound file in program but no video.I know this is a lame question but like I said i'm a musician! not video tech.
I would like to convert what ever form the sound is in video to wav or mp3 like I said so I can re-edit or even use a home recording of song to go along with video

Re: how to covert sound in videos

Import it into Audacity and export it (you need to download the lame_enc file first) to either wav or mp3. Audacity can be found here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/late...-win-1.2.6.exe

Then download the lame_enc onto your desktop if you want to convert it to mp3. When you do so it will ask for that file once. Point it to the downloaded version and you can then delete it. lame_enc can be found here: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip
