video card help???

ok aside from my desktop i use for gaming i also have a Alienware Area 51-M. i had a guy at work look at it for me and he said that the graphics card is shot. i guess it is a common problem with this model. my questions are

what kind of video card is it?
where can i get a new one?
how much for a new one?
is there and upgraded version that i can use instead?

i searched the web and couldnt find anything and i know going through alienware they will tear me a new one on the price. any help is greatly appreciated.
