Twisted [SOLVED] ATI x3870 start up problem.

Hello,
I recently bought few parts for the computer and assembled them. All cables are connected and after start I see black screen with red text message saying:

" You have not connected the power cable to your video card. Please refer to the ‘Getting started guide’ for proper hardware installation"

And beeping from buzzer.
I do have special connection 6-pin from PSU connected to the card and PSU is 750W (Thermaltake)
Graphic card is DIAMOND Viper Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4.

This error shows not always, but usually after some time working on PC and restarting it.

I read in this forums that someone else had similar problem with X800 card or 9800, but I didn't found any solution.

Did anyone seen it recently on new cards? Any idea what to do? Is the card defective and should be returned/replaced (I got 20 days for replacement)?

Thanks,

Akip

Re: ATI x3870 start up problem.

I checked MSI nVidia 8800GTS on this system and it worked without problems.
I believe that ATI card is broken so I'll send it back for replacement. I'll update this topic if new one will be working fine.

Re: ATI x3870 start up problem.

I replaced a card and still the same issue, next I tried this card in M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with 500W power supply (older) and worked like a charm.
So I replaced 500W power supply with this 750W (SLI certified) and it working so far.

I think that SLI certified power supply is not Crosfillre certified. Strange singe the 750W have special connectors for graphic cards but the 500W doesn't.

Cheers

Re: ATI x3870 start up problem.

Glad you sorted it. It is a very common issue, being underpowered for such a beast of a graphics card. You shouldn't have any problems now though... welcome to TSF btw.

Re: [SOLVED] ATI x3870 start up problem.

System was still not stable probably 500W was not enough. (amd phenom, 3 hdd, dvd and ati x3750hd)
So I added old 400W power supply which powers up fans, lights and graphic card.
No problems noted yet.
