simcity societies question on video card issue

Hello, I bought my niece simcity societies thinking her tower she got from her parents would be sufficient enough to load and run. She has also put on a few of the other sims games she has. Upon installing simcitiy societies, I get it fully loaded and patched and go to fire up the game and i get an error...Game Exception Unhandled exception unable to find valid device type:class tmill:common:exception file c/sc5patch/source/engine/dxdevice function tmill::engine line getbestdeviceid line 599. Lookin that up in google says it is a video card issue. Now i know the tower had the right dx it needed but wondering if other games are taking up to much space to where it would create this error. would removing the other games fix this? i am lost on this one.

Re: simcity societies question on video card issue

Nah, first try to just reinstall the game. If that doesn't work then post back with the make and model of the pc, or better yet if you know the specs off hand that would work too. The older sims games don't really require a good pc at all to play, but sim city societies requires at least 128mb video card with directx 9.

Re: simcity societies question on video card issue

i tried reinstalling it and still same issue. even cleaned up alot off the computer and defragged, still to no avail. I wrote down the video cad but now i dont know where i put it. I think it was like a geforce mmx4 or some thing along those lines, dont think its 128 though so pretty sure shes going to need a larger video card. i think her tower is one of those cheapy e machines or something like that.

Re: simcity societies question on video card issue

Yea the geforce 4 video card doesn't support directx 9 nor do I think it has 128 mb of ram. Post the make and model emachine so we can determin a suitable upgrade, also your budget.

Cool Re: simcity societies question on video card issue

sorry didnt get out to get the details, but isnt going to be an issue, mom wont let her kid upgrade video card anyways so she can play, thankfully she has a thoughtful uncle with a decent laptop willing to let her play it on his when she wants to. figure is the least i can do.
