problem updating driver
ok, so when i try and update my video driver, i complete the installation and everything is fine, but after I've restarted my computer, its like it never happened. after i installed the driver i check on " can you run it" and it still says my driver is out-of-date.
i am running windows xp and my graphics card is geforce 8500 gt. any help would be much appreciated. |

Re: problem updating driver
I suppose that the new driver you have tried to install is the 169.21 version ?
we can find at this link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html

Re: problem updating driver
Hey Hektic
I have seen this issue before when i was a computer repair tech for CompUSA. Might i suggest rebooting into Safe Mode instead of VGA mode. All though VGA mode is good for getting you basic video it does not have the same effect Safe Mode does. By booting into safe mode your are loading the bare min in drivers and programs, this highly reduces the any conflicting problems. Wile in safe mode un install the old drivers, reinstall the new ones and reboot. Usually this happens because there is a program, or virus/spyware hindering the new drivers being installed into the xp registry correctly. I would assume you are the admin of your computer or have admin rights, if not that also might be your issue. just my 2 cents on the issue at hand hope it helps Star |

Re: problem updating driver
Ok, thanks Hektic.
then the status given by "can you run it" must be: ************************** Video Card Driver Version (DirectX) Your driver version number is: 6.14.11.6921 ************************************ And obviously it is not the case for you ? isn't it ? and also in the "device manager" the driver version is not the above version ? If everything above are rigths I can only confirm the starscreem's suggestion
