Re: 6800XT Shuts down comp when connected to psu

Screwed up, this is full post, sorry I bought a GeForce 6800xt agp8x card with 512mb of DDR2 ram about a year ago. I have a HP pavillion a330n with 1 gig (2 - 512mb pc2700 modules) of ram. My cpu is a 2.16gig athlon xp, with a a7n8x-la explorer 2 motherboad. My psu was a Antec Basiq 350w. It had 2 - 12v rails , 10a and 13a. I had no prob's running bf2 and cod4 at mostly medium settings for online play.

One night I was playing cod4 online when my computer went into an unresponsive state, no smoke , sparks, nutin. Couldnt wake it so I held down power button until it shut off. When I tried to start it agian the led power indicator flashed once and fans twitched but that was it. When I disconnected the molex from the card the computer started right up. The fan on the vid card runs off agp power but obviously I have no video to moniter. If I remove the vid card, on board will kick in and everything works fine. I replaced the psu with Antec Basiq 500w with 2-12v rails , both at 18a. Same problem. Is it the card? If so anyone have suggestion for comparible replacement? Cant afford new computer so thats out.

If anyone could help I'd appreciate it! thanks!

Re: 6800XT Shuts down comp when connected to psu

Welcome to tsf. Yea sounds like that card may have fried or something. The only thing I could say beside getting a new one is try the card in another machine or try a different agp card in your machine to make sure its not the agp slot on the board itself.

Most likely what might have happened is the 350w wasn't providing consistent or low power to the card and may have ruiend it. If you do ultimately need to get a new card I would suggest a radeon x1950, or a radeon hd 2600xt.
