[SOLVED] Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
I have a Radeon X700 and a widescreen monitor. I'm running Windows XP 64-bit edition. I've installed the correct drivers and everything, but when I attempt to set the screen resolution to something higher than 640x480 I end up with an extremely malproportioned desktop.
The monitor's ideal resolution is 1680x1050 but when I set the desktop to that size, stretched much farther horizontally than the screen can display- like it thinks I have a bigger monitor than I do. (If I move the cursor over the edge of the screen, it will automatically scroll to show other parts of the desktop.) I tried reinstalling the monitor drivers, but that was unsuccessful too. I took a chance using 64-bit edition thinking that it might be a little inconvenient, but ultimately still useful. So far, I've not been able to get past my display working properly. Any help would be seriously appreciated. |

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
Have you tried Catalyst 8.2 (released yesterday)?
Did you install the full Software Suite (which includes the Catalyst Control Center, which requires MS .NET Framework 2.0 for XP64) or just the driver?

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
I had installed the full suit, but couldn't get it to run. I consistently got a missing file warning. Most of the solutions I found had to do with updating the .net framework which I did, but didn't resolve the problem. I will definitely try the new catalyst release and see how that goes.
Thanks! |

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
Make sure you use the .NET in my link. This is for 64bit XP. I only use 32bit so I can't be sure, but I'm guessing the 64bit version will be more suitable for your system.

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
OK, let us know how it goes with v3.0.
If the .NET Framework is causing problems, you could just download the driver and then use ATI Tray Tools for the features found in the CCC. Or you could try the Omega driver instead. This is a tweaked version of the official Catalyst aimed at gamers.

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
Well, I attempted to update the CCC, but with no real success. I'm still getting a MOM.Implementation missing file warning when CCC tries to start up and the aspect ratio is still a problem.
It looks as if for some reason windows doesn't recognize my monitor as being a widescreen display. As long as it's a 4:3 ratio all will appear on the screen, stretched out horizontally. However, any widescreen settings stretch it out even further but overflows off the screen. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the video driver, but maybe something between windows and my monitor. Frankly, I've got no idea how to fix the problem. Any more ideas? |

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
At this point, it's still looking like a driver/CCC/NET problem.
Mom.exe is part of the Catalyst Control Center. All the other forum posts and articles I've looked at about the MOM.Implementation missing file say to install the .NET Framework first, then reboot and reinstall Catalyst. Installing or upgrading .NET after CCC can cause this error. So, if you haven't already done this, the steps to follow in the correct order: Uninstall the ATI driver and Catalyst Control Center from Add/Remove Programs and remove the ATI entry in Device Manager, then reboot in VGA or Safe Mode. Disable antivirus. .NET has already been upgraded to 3.0 so you can install the CCC/driver now, then reboot back to normal mode.

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
Still no success. I uninstalled all ATI software, restarted into safe mode, then installed the 8.2 verson of CCC and video drivers. Still the same problem with the monitor. It definitely thinks the monitor is a standard resolution because only the standard resolution settings fit on the screen. Anything widescreen stretches off the sides.
The Catalyst Control Center is still giving me an error, but instead of MOM.Implementatio, it's CLI.Implementation now. |

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
The CLI.Implementation error is fixed in the same way as the MOM.Implementation error. Uninstall ATI/CCC, reinstall .NET, then install ATI/CCC again. All the other threads I've looked at on other forums regarding this problem advise to contact ATI if this solution doesn't work.

Re: Widescreen Monitor and Resolution Issue
Success!
I removed all the .NET stuff, then instead of installing .NET 2, then 3 then SP1 and SP2 for the .NET framework, I just downloaded the 2.0 redistributable from the microsoft website. After about a dozen reboots, I got CCC working. Then, sifting through the monitor options in CCC there's a automatic monitor detection that for some reason recognized my monitor as a standard resolution screen. Once I fixed it, it works perfect. Thanks for the help, and persistence; especially in making me get the CCC deal working! Another win for Tech Support Forum! Hurray! |
