Question about FPS

This weekend my friend showed me how to check my frames per second while playing COD4. I didnt know that the game had its own. Anyway, While playing both team deathmatch and the sniper maps I would have numbers in the high 90's but then I would also have numbers in the 40's, back and forth. The thing is im not getting much lag, once in a while, but I think that might be my cable companys fault. I purchased my new card because I wanted to get the most out of gaming but now it appears that im not What would be a good connection speed on my modem? Any thoughts? Thank you

Re: Question about FPS

I tested my internet connection using Speedtest.net and it shows 14082 kb/s download and 1839 kb/s upload. I just wanted to mention that my card after playing COD4 for an hour hits about 74c.

Re: Question about FPS

Everything looks good to me. I have a friend who plays Call of Duty 4 and using the same site gets 8K download and 1K upload plays just fine. However I get 34K download and 3K upload. But your good internetwise.

As for the FPS. Internet connection and FPS have nothing in common. FPS is what your system puts out while ping is what you internet puts out. Ingame press Tab and check your ping (its that number on the far right). For most games it really shouldn't be above 100. However in CoD4 and Crysis it tend to be in the 120s range alot.

For the video card temperature your fine. As long as it is below 90C your good to go. The 8800GTs are known for high performance but horrible cooling.

Re: Question about FPS

I just went home for lunch and played COD4 for a lil' bit and I was getting some lag. Do you think that it could have something to do with my monitor im running it at 1680 x 1050 resolution and that is the max?

Re: Question about FPS

It could be. You CPU is not that great and is definitely bottlenecking the GPU a bit. But check your ping. Sometimes its not computer lag just internet lag.

Re: Question about FPS

Its Defenatly not your CPU, unless its overheating causing lag spikes.

My 8800GT Ran perfect with my 4600+ and COD4 was fine too.
