Upgrading video card.. Will it work?

Hey guys. I'm upgrading my old video card RADEON 9800 pro 128meg to a RADEON X1300 256 meg card. I'm wondering if this will work. My motherboard is a few years old so I want to know if it'll work before I go out and buy it.

ok thanks. but another question. If I get a Nvidia card, will it work?

My friend said Nvidia cards have more bus speed or something so its better for gaming.

Nvidia instead of X1300
