My ASUS 8800 GT
I monitor it using ASUS SmartDoctor since Rivatuner and other 3rd party stuff doesn't work with it.
There is this 'Hyperdrive' mode where I could set it so my card will OC to a degree where the temperature is not damaging. I set the limit to be 85 Mhz, so unless the temperature is too high, the card will run at 685 core clock( shader clock increases as well but I've forgotten the value of it, will check later) while gaming and goes back to 600 while non-gaming. Temperature while idle ( non-gaming ) is around 40 degrees celcius and around 48 while gaming. Do you guys think I should set the limit higher? coz it seems like there is so much more room to OC. Also FYI, my card has a big fan + heatsink ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121224 ), I am guessing this design is awesome at keep the temperature low. :) |

Re: My ASUS 8800 GT
Yes you will owned. I run mine at 738/2020 and it blasts. Make sure you put the fan at about 80% and have good case airflow.

Re: My ASUS 8800 GT
I'm by no means an expert, but I might almost say that overclocking the card would not be useful, given the CPU bottleneck. If OCing doesn't give you a noticeable performance increase, might as well not OC because of increased power consumption.

Re: My ASUS 8800 GT
Lame CPU! :/ lol
Anyway I've been checking on those CPUs' performance and prices, looks like those AMD Phenom CPUs are the best bang for buck? If I'm mistaken, what are the good cpus taking price into consideration? and thanks for the advice. :) |

Re: My ASUS 8800 GT
Thing is, my motherboard doesn't, so if i am gonna upgrade my CPU, i gotta do the same with my motherboard.
I checked on this website http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_20...=882&chart=418 and another local website about their prices, it seems to me that those AMD Phenom CPUs are the best bang for buck. What say you? :) and btw, I haven't used any AMD CPU before, have always been an Intel user. |

Re: My ASUS 8800 GT
I would second that. If you're looking to upgrade the whole package, might want to look at this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=3601833&AffiliateID=NKa3hZyYoHA-eG4XMKyNMSoinlYgrnS6LA It's a pretty good deal, with high quality mobo, ram, and cpu all for US $400. Just thought would be worth looking at. I agree that intel cpus, on the high end, have a higher bang/buck ratio than AMD. In fact, just the cpu and mobo together retail around $550 on newegg.com, not even including the ram. |

Re: My ASUS 8800 GT
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 seems to be pretty good too.
However, I've heard that most of the games do not benefit from a 4 cores CPU? I'm not sure on that and worrying about not being able to maximize Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600's ability. FYI, my computer is mainly for gaming. |
