PNY 8800GT question

Hello,
I just bought a PNY 8800GT. I opened up my case and replaced my old videocard with the new. The new card came with a cable to be connected to the power supply. The cable has one connection (for the card) on one side and two connections ( for the power supply) on the other. My computer only has one available cable coming from the power supply( 600 watt) to connect to the graphics card. I connected the one cable, and the graphic card works great. Will I run into trouble if the other cable isn't connected to anything? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: PNY 8800GT question

Welcome to tsf daveb1234. I'm sure you a talking about the dual molex to 6 or 8 pin adapter. If you can you SHOULD connect both molex ends on the adapter so that the 8800 can get the most current flowing.

Re: PNY 8800GT question

thanks for the help.
Any suggestions on getting both connected if there is only one connection available? is there a way to make another connection to the power supply?(that a novice could handle)

Re: PNY 8800GT question

is this the card you own? http://www2.pny.com/8800-GT-512MB-PC...P2562C269.aspx

if so, the best possible situation is to have a 6pin 12v PCI-E connector running from the PSU straight to your video card. it's actually ideal if you don't use the adapter.

A big question

I'm having umax smps 450watt
i hv currently got new motherboard of msi p7n sli platinum with q6600 quad core n 250gb sata hdd n 2*1gb ddr2 corsair ram n 3extra fans for cooling n with msi 8800gt-oc 512mb pci ex card n DVD writer lg

is my smps sufficient ?????
my motherboard has 8 pin for power 12v but i'll be using 4 pin for same as my dealer said no problems....

the cord came with video card ....
The cable has one connection (for the card) on one side and two connections ( for the power supply) on the other
do i have 2 connect both molex ends 4 optimal performance??
one of the fans r having molax with both types(male & female) can i use the port for hdd?

Re: PNY 8800GT question

A umax 450w is not a good powersupply at all. Its not powerfull enough and not good quality.

Get a 650w or higher psu with 26amps or higher on the 12v rail. And make sure it has all the connections , 6 and 8 pins that your computer needs. Go with brands such as antec's trios series , thermaltakes toughpower series , corsair , silverstone , or coolermaster.

Re: PNY 8800GT question

It's best to get a psu with the full 8 pins that the motherboard requires.
