ATI Vpu recovery error on x800xl

Since i got this card, i have experienced ati vpu errors every 5-10 minutes on 3d games, and every 20 minutes on certain 2d games.

I have turned the settings for these games down to lowest settings available. After 3 of these errors i usually have to restart the computer because the card will no longer reset.

Every so often the screen will black out and i will have to hold the power button of the computer to shut it down, so it will work again, the sound clicks when this happens.

I have tried to underclock the card it doesn't work. I have also made sure all of my drivers and my motherboard bios are updated.

I also have 3d design program which never has these problems. Any help would be appreciated?

Here are my system specs:
Dell 8400
Windows XP
350 watt power supply
1gig of ram
3.4 ghz Pentium 4 processor
ati x800xl

When i load speed fan the only temperature that comes up is my hard drive which is at 33C, i do have ATI tool which says maximum temp. is 85c, when a screen saver or game is running. average temperature is 55.4c the only thing open is Internet.

Re: ATI Vpu recovery error on x800xl

I haven't cleaned my computer out in about two weeks, but cleaning it out does not seem to have any effect on the problem. This problem has been going on for about a year nonstop, even after cleanings.

Then it sounds like a power supply problem Check your volatages in bios if they are not shown in sensor view http://www.stvsoft.com/

Re: ATI Vpu recovery error on x800xl

Unless the card came STOCK with this PC then I'm gonna say it's the PSU. HP, Dell, all of the big brands are well known for using low-power units which severly limits any sort of upgrading.
