Vid Card, Wc3, XP

Well life story starts now...

I bought a computer from a no name company online. and come to find out the video card I am using is not supported by on the xp os. So what I thought just because it doesn't like it doesn't mean it won't work... wrong... Running my computer and surfing the net no problem. I start playing warcraft3 and boom. the computer locks up I get an error message from ATI when the computer flashes back to the desktop and adjusts my resultion setting to the min. So yeah I am happy camper right now. Now I want to get this cheap little card a geforce http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150241&ATT=14-150-241&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&nm_mc=OTC-pr1c3watch&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3watch-_-Video+Cards-_-XFX-_-14150241 yeah buddy... I have 2 pci-e slots open and an AGP slot (which has the ATI presently). I can see that much and know what that is... but is this a good move? someone?

(right now it's a ATI all-in-wonder x600).

Thanks!,
An Idiot

Re: Vid Card, Wc3, XP

Welcome to tsf. You pc most likely has two "PCI" not pci-e slots and a agp slot. Granted I have seen motherboards with both agp and pci-e slot, but have never seen one with an agp and two pci-e slots. Here is an image of the slots please check one more time to make sure they are not regular pci slots.

If this is the case you will need to find an agp card. Also , your video card is supported by windows xp. The video card however might not be powerful enough or isn't supported by Warcraft.

Re: Vid Card, Wc3, XP

Just for the sake of me looking like an absolute moron lets say I'm looking for an AGP card. the warcraft 3 reqs are here http://www.blizzard.com/war3x/ ... so then... would I be able to get away with a $50.00 vid card for multiplayer action without lag?

I'll admit for 50$ your not going to get a real great card. I also won't garentee there won't be lag because I do not know the rest of your specs. Please post your specs.

heres a couple of 50$ options

Re: Vid Card, Wc3, XP

What does the error say that it gives you when you try to play the game. Because im looking at the requierments again and I think that card should work.

Re: Vid Card, Wc3, XP

I'll have to look at it again I just remember it says report to ATI and then it says it cannot connect to hotmail through outlook yadda yadda. but I'll get back to you with the exact message.

That covers one type of crash I experience the other is the screen goes back then the little message in the center says "now entering sleep mode" and I can't unsleep it, so I have to reset the computer.

then the other types in the first post also.

Re: Vid Card, Wc3, XP

Try to update the video card drivers and then update the bios on the motherboard.
